This piece began as a realism piece, and halfway through, my soul refused any longer to confine itself to rules, to suffocate under the weight of three dimensions; so I freed it. The original concept was inspired by my encounters with God, through the thin veil between the physical and spiritual realms that feels like the surface of water. A distorted glimpse of another realm, once in a while- a muffled voice, through the loud silence. Perhaps then, it felt even more aligned to complete the encounter with free forms that only human imagination can conceptualize. How can the spirit be compressed into realism, anyhow? How can the Spirit be anything we can fathom imagining, or flattened into human dimensions?
Throughout my life, there have been undeniable moments where I felt the guidance of something, someone, everything, all at once. Too strange to be a coincidence, too heavy to be air. Stars aligning and fate settling all around me like dust, drawing goosebumps out from my heart and onto my skin- and in those moments, I feel Him. Everywhere, nowhere, surrounding me, alone, alive, out of body. This painting is of those moments.
I’ve been feeling extra inspired lately to abandon all forms of realism/copying images altogether. When anyone can create something photoperfect, where in the lines does the human soul settle? I hope this piece is the first of the rest of my life.
Measuring 30 × 40 inches, this original oil painting is a one-of-a-kind piece. It is signed by the artist and accompanied by a palette-stamp certificate of authenticity.
