“Veil” is an exploration of both my underwater realism and the playful blending of two realities: the physical and spiritual realms. When I paint, I often feel as though I am connected to something beyond myself, perhaps a connection to human consciousness as a whole. I spend many hours contemplating what exists beyond this life, and this painting embodies those curiosities. What happens when we die? Do we become one with the stars? Is human really even made of anything other than the sea and earth and stars themselves? What does it feel like when our soul transcends beyond this life? What will being in the presence our Creator feel like? Will we feel enveloped in warmth, in light? Will it feel like bathing in the stars? This painting is a sort of self-portrait of searching. It is best explained by one of my favorite artist quotes:
